A Dictionary of the Wirangu Language of the Far West Coast of South Australia
This dictionary is intended to be the definitive work on the Wirangu Language based on contemporary and historical sources. It has over 1550 headword entries, most of which include an illustrative sentence and other detailed information for the dictionary user. It expands the wordlist published in the Wirangu grammar (Hercus 1999) by incorpating additional historical materials only recently brought to light; most notably the recordings of Pastor Carl Hoff and the linguist Geoffrey O'Grady (the former ran the Koonibba Mission during the 1920's and the latter visited the West Coast in 1959, interviewing a number of local people and making tape recordings). As well as demonstrating the Wirangu language in action - how it is used when interacting with other peol - the illustrative sentences offer a wealth of historical and culture information to the reader.
